youraverageleo asked: Hello! I’m making a blog where artists and authors can find others to work with. If you need someone to collaborate with, draw your characters, or write a plot out for you, this is the place to go. If you could go to the url artistsandauthors and reblog the latest post, or post this ask to get the word out, that’d be great! It’s fine if you don’t, though. Have a nice day...

If you make your character left handed...
Some everyday things you can include in your writing to make your character more beliveable:     •    most knives and scissors have the edge on the opposite side. We use ‘blunt’ or customized blades most of the time. May sound as a little thing, but really annoying. This also goes for swords, bows and some other weapons.     •    Left handed people need left handed music instruments...

Anonymous asked: I once read a great book that opened my eyes to the artistic possibilities of tense and perspective changes called The Fox Woman. It was a based on a Japanese folktale about a fox who transforms into a woman to steal the love of a married man; most of the book is told in past tense from the fox's POV as she recounts her story, but we're also given glimpses into the married human...

Anonymous asked: I think it's great that this blog helps with writing and stuff, but I don't necessarily want to hear mods complaining or expressing they have writers block about homework or writing that they're working on. I think those kinds of posts belong on personal blogs. Or maybe you could tag them so I don't have to see them.

I have also seen that someone is now in hospital. The lack of article...

Anonymous asked: For the vocab anon: I honestly think the best way to get a better vocabulary is just reading widely. The problem that often comes up with using a thesaurus is that it can be really easy to see that the writer's just picked the word right out of a thesaurus and stuck it in there, and it makes an entire sentence a lot more jarring (cf: all of stephenie Meyers' writing). Just my thoughts!...

Anonymous asked: For the Purple prose anon: I recommend you to read some of Carlos Ruiz Zafon novels, he tends to write really beautiful elaborate and vivid descriptions without them being boring or heavy. I'm not sure if the english translation kills this or not.

Anonymous asked: I'm currently writing a novel in present tense 3rd person omniscient, and it's much more difficult than I planned, but at the same time I feel like it opens up more options for me to delve into the psyches of multiple characters. Improving vocabulary
I really need help expanding my vocabulary. I have tendency to repeat words very often. Can you help?   Well, there’s always just opening dictionaries and thesauruses, but that’s really ineffectual when you want words that you’ll use (and actually remember!). So! I suggest you check out stuff like the word-of-the-day on dictionary.com, they usually have some interesting and...

Creating a fictional language
I asked this before, but I think it was when the questions got deleted. I wanted to know how would I go about creating a new language for my fictional story? There’s a lot of advice on world-building when I searched but not much creating a new language. This can be a tricky one. You could go completely gung-ho and buy a book or read a lot on the subject, and then spend time meticulously...

Anonymous asked: On plot vs. characters: I'd say it depends on the type of the story. Some stories rely heavily on plot while the characters and their psychology isn't explored too deeply (Lord of the Rings/The Hobbit): Their interactions and past may have an important part in the plot, though. Some focus almost solely on characters and their interactions with each other (Zen and Motorcycle Maintenance)....
